The 1st School for Rap and Lyricism

We're thrilled to have you at Pendulum Ink, where we bring together rappers and lyricists to sharpen their skills with a community of like-minded artists, building their successful music careers, and share their unique voices with the world.

This community is YOUR campus!

Introduction

When I pondered what an academy for lyricism might look like, I did not initially imagine it would have videos or a textbook to go along with it. Rap dictionaries and how-to rap guides were a big turn off for me as a lyricist growing up in the late 90’s and 2000’s. These guides never resonated with me as I was learning the craft. I believe they lacked a level of technical insight that I was searching for at the time. However, the maturation of what Hip Hop has become has changed my outlook on the potential of well-researched guides for emerging emcees. The result of my awakening and my desire to share my insights with other artists have now culminated in this academy and the book you now have in your hands (or on your screen), the videos you will watch and the live online classes your will attend. Inside this school you are going to find information that you can’t find anywhere else. Engage and absorb these writings, illustrations, videos and instructions with honor and pride. A lot of time, effort, arguments, debates and edits went into the creation of these courses.

Lyricism in Hip Hop has grown from its inception some 50 years ago right up until now. Trust me when I tell you, Hip Hop lyricism will continue to grow and advance forever. That’s five decades and counting of our writing (and performing) evolution. Much of that energy is compiled into this school to help you enhance the craft for yourself (and for your audiences). Don’t skim these teachings to jump start your writing prowess. Listen closely; embrace the principles and techniques that are most compelling to you, but learn them all. I promise you; the more time you spend honing your skills on each technique, the better off you will be as an artist. I am proud of you for having the courage and constitution to become an artist in the first place. But more importantly I am excited about your investment into lyricism. This is a journey that every writer experiences.
