Mickey Factz Joins NYU Faculty As Adjunct Professor Of Rap Theory

Hip-hop just earned another seat in the halls of higher learning—and this time, it comes from the Pendulum Ink family. We’re proud to announce that our founder, Mickey Factz, has been appointed Adjunct Professor at New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, where he will teach “The Art of the MC” starting October 23rd.

This course, previously taught by Black Thought of The Roots, explores the mechanics, history, and evolution of MCing. Now, Mickey will carry that torch into a new semester – bridging the world of academia with the raw science of lyricism.

From Pendulum Ink To NYU: A Natural Progression

Mickey has been preparing for this moment long before NYU called. In 2021, he co-founded Pendulum Ink with battle rap legend Chilla Jones, creating the world’s first school dedicated entirely to rap, lyricism, and hip-hop education. Through structured rap theory, advanced rhyme training, mental conditioning, and music industry strategy, Pendulum Ink has shaped hundreds of artists worldwide.

Our Celebrity Lecture Series featuring legends like Method Man, Styles P, Bun B, Lady London, and Xzibit has given students direct access to the thinkers and craftsmen of hip-hop. NYU took notice—and Mickey’s appointment is proof that lyricism isn’t a hobby. It’s a discipline.
